Only 64 children in Redbridge have missed out on getting into any of their parents’ choice of primary schools this year.

Parents across the borough have been nervously checking their inboxes today (Tuesday, April 18) hoping to find out where their child will be starting primary school in September.

Redbridge Council confirmed 87.93 per cent of youngsters in the borough got their first choice school, up from 83.94 per cent last year, and above the London average of 85.95 per cent.

The percentage of primary school hopefuls who got into one of their top three choices also rose from 97.17 per cent to 93.89 per cent.

A total of 7.22 per cent got their second preference, while 2.03 per cent bagged their third selection.

The number of children who did not get into any of their parents’ preferred schools dropped from 145 to 64 (3.5 per cent to 1.66 per cent).

Council cabinet member for children and young people Cllr Elaine Norman said: “School places in Redbridge are high in demand because of the excellent education we are able to offer young people.

“I’m pleased that we have been able to offer so many children a place at one of their preferred schools.”
