AN EDUCATION consultant has organised an exhibition to educate people of all ages about the First World War.

Malcolm Doolin of Leyton is a member of the east London branch of the Western Front Association.

The national organisation aims to promote study, learning and research into the Great War of 1914-18.

Mr Doolin consulted schools in the area to get a feel for what students would like to learn about the war.

He put together a series of displays that will feature in the exhibition in Vestry House Museum in Vestry Road, Walthamstow, and St Mary’s Church in Church End, Walthamstow.

East London and West Essex Guardian Series:

Mr Doolin said: “People will be able to step back in time and speak to actors who will be dressed up as First World War medics. They can ask them questions like what it was like back then and they will go into character.

“There will be photos and reports on display and local authors who have researched the hundreds of war graves in the borough will be there.

“I have chosen now to do this exhibition because we are in the centenary of the Great War and Walthamstow was quite important in it.

“I want to make it interesting for everybody, those who know about it and those who want to know more.”

Newspapers published during the war years will be available for reading and local authors will be signing copies of their books based on the war.

The joint exhibitions will be opened by the Mayor of Waltham Forest Cllr Peter Herrington at 10am on Saturday May 6 and will run until 5pm.

Entry is free and refreshments will be provided.
