This “dangerous and irresponsible” delivery driver was caught red-handed parking illegally on the pavement.

Domino’s Pizza have been causing controversy in Wanstead since they opened up a shop in the high street earlier this year.

Complaints of anti-social behaviour have littered local social media sites in recent weeks, with neighbours and councillors worried about noise, rubbish, and parking.

So when a car was pictured blocking the pavement outside the shop on Sunday afternoon (April 23) residents were quick to raise the alarm.

One said “This is ridiculous and against the law”, while another said it was “beyond belief”.

Another added: “If we let one driver get away with this then soon everyone will be parking on the pavements throughout Redbridge and it will be chaos.”

Parking expert Derek Dishman who takes on people’s parking appeals under the name Mr Mustard said he could not believe it either.

He said: “It’s illegal under the General Powers Act 1974 to park on the pavement anywhere in greater London.

“This is extremely selfish parking, blocking the nearby crossing for the blind, disabled, and parents with buggies.

“It’s just not right – it’s plain anti-social, there’s absolutely no excuse for it.”

In its planning application for the site, Domino’s claimed it would not need any vehicle parking.

It said: “Domino's ensures the flow of traffic to the store is kept to a minimum.

“Each store employs around 25-30 people, who usually live locally, which reduces the need for every individual to bring a vehicle to work.

“The majority of these jobs are part time and during the day, when demand is low, there may be as few as two or three staff on duty with only one delivery vehicle being used.”

But Snaresbrook Cllr Suzanne Nolan said she has reported illegal pavement parking outside the pizza shop on a number of occasions.

She said: “It’s very dangerous and inconsiderate.

“This is the second time I’ve reported it to the council, but I know it’s been happening a lot.

“They think they can do what they like when they like, but they can’t.

“It could result in a serious accident.”

The police, Redbridge Council, and Domino’s Pizza have been contacted for comment.
