A toddler has been placed in the care of Waltham Forest council because its mother said her family would be "ashamed" of the pregnancy.
The girl, now more than a year old, was born nine months after her Romanian mother had arrived in Britain.
The woman had relinquished her daughter's care following birth and agreed to the baby being adopted in England.
A judge has ruled that the youngster, now 13 months old, should be placed with adoptive parents.
Detail of the case has emerged in a ruling by Judge Carol Atkinson after a hearing in a family court in London.
The woman was "not fully sure" who the father was and did not want her family or Romanian authorities to know about her pregnancy, said the judge.
She said her family would be "ashamed" of her and would "not want to accept" the little girl.
Judge Atkinson said social work bosses at Waltham Forest Council had welfare responsibilities for the little girl.
She did not identify anyone involved.
