I just had to write after reading the news about the plans for the Whipps Cross hospital site.

How spot on it is that we should not be encouraging people in their self-destructive lifestyles by maintaining oversized provision for the sick.

But, of course, we should be doing more to encourage people to take health into their own hands.

Indeed, I was able to prise myself from the clutches of a potentially life-threatening illness by cutting out certain items from my diet. Namely sugar, wheat, gluten, nuts, dairy, carbohydrates, soft fruits, proteins, samphire and glove artichokes.

Also, rather than the elderly to clogging up beds would it not be more creative to build a holding centre to shift them along until a more permanent, individualised solution can be found?

While I am at it, may I suggest that if building high obesity services be kept on the ground to save wear and tear on the lifts? Obviously, the new complex will have to be smoke free, vape free, fizzy free, chip free, cake free and to include services for those who bring illness on themselves though laxity and self-indulgence.

Isn’t it just wonderful that we have visionary health officials such as Mr Alistair Finney. Never mind protection against the destruction of that ghastly Edwardian pile, let’s embrace change for the future for the good of all our health, and the public purse of course.
