DOCTORS’ SURGERIES in Redbridge have not been hit by Friday’s global cyber-attack on the NHS, health bosses have confirmed.

The malware attack brought down systems at Barts Health NHS Trust, which runs Whipps Cross Hospital in Leytonstone, resulting in cancelled appointments and diverted ambulances.

Security experts were worried GPs across the country would be faced with further chaos when they turned on their computers for the first time this morning (May 15).

But Redbridge Clinical Commissioning Group (Redbridge CCG) says GPs in the borough “have not been directly impacted”.

A spokesman said: “We expect all practices in the area to be open as usual.

“Clinical systems are unaffected and GPs can continue to access information, including electronic patient records, as normal.

“But connections between different NHS organisations have been affected.”

They said this could mean test results and electronic prescriptions from other NHS organisations are still inaccessible.

The CCG also urged people to only go to the A&Es in Leytonstone, Goodmayes, and Romford if it is a “genuine emergency” and go to its urgent GP hubs in South Woodford, Newbury Park, and Barkingisde instead.
