A security guard has been shot during an attempted robbery at a bank in Walthamstow town centre.
Police were called to the Nationwide branch in the High Street at around 3.25am this morning (Thursday, May 18), to respond to reports a robbery was in progress.
When officers arrived at the scene, they found the security guard, a 53-year-old man, suffering from gunshot wounds.
He was taken to hospital by paramedics from London Ambulance Service. His injuries are not being treated as life-threatening or life-changing.
Much of the street around the bank was taped off well into the afternoon while officers from the Met's Flying Squad and forenic investigators conduct enquries.
A spokesman for Nationwide said the firm was aware of the incident and were assisting police with their investigation.
Officers are yet to make any arrests in connection with the raid.
