Trains on the Victoria line will now run once every 100 seconds, making the service the second most frequent in the world.
Engineering work completed by Transport for London (TfL) will mean commuters should wait less than two minutes for a train at stations on the line during peak times.
The new service, which was launched yesterday (Monday, May 22), is expected to carry more than 3,000 extra passengers every hour during the line’s busiest times.
The new improvements mean the Victoria line, which serves Walthamstow Central and Blackhorse Road stations in Waltham Forest, is the second most frequent in the world.
The line is only beaten by the Moscow Metro, where commuters can only expect to wait 90 seconds for a train.
The engineering work marks the final part of a TfL project to upgrade signalling on the line.
