A REVEREND is throwing open the doors to his church to invite people inside to mourn the victims of a suspected terrorist attack.

Reverend David Britton of St John the Baptist’s church in Leytonstone High Road has organised a remembrance service in response to the “horrific” attack in Manchester.

Twenty-two people including children were killed in the bombing at a concert by singer Ariana Grande in Manchester Arena at 10.35pm on Monday May 22.

Police believe a lone male attacker who died in the blast detonated an improvised explosive device.

A hustings for the General Election due to be held in a church tonight has been cancelled.

Rev Britton said: “We will be holding a silent vigil to show solidarity with the victims of the horrific terror attack.

“It will be an opportunity for people to mourn and to light candles and we will have some readings and a short service.

“Everyone is welcome – people of all faiths and none.

“Our thoughts and prayers go to the victims and families of this terrible atrocity and the people of Manchester.”

The church will be open from 7.30pm to 8.30pm and a short service with readings will take place at 8pm on Tuesday May 23.

Candidates for Leyton and Wanstead in the General Election were due to attend the event chaired by Rev Britton.

Labour’s John Cryer, Conservative Laura Farris, Green’s Ashley Gunstock and Lib Dem Ben Sims are vying for the seat.

All campaigning for the June 8 election has been called off in light of the attack.
