A massage parlour in a building owned by a councillor has been ordered to close.

Bobby Nagpal, the vice chairman of Buckhurst Hill Parish Council, owns Nagpal House in Gunthorpe Street, Whitechapel.

The massage parlour was told it was trading without licence in February 2016 and then served with a notice in October.

But despite the warnings, it still continues to trade.

The massage parlour have appealed the notice.

Mr Nagpal sits on the planning committee at Buckhurst Hill Parish Council.

A neighbour, who does not want to be named, said: “As an elected representative, it does not look good.

“The massage business that he houses as a tenant has been trading unauthorised since day one. It was reported to the council on day one and is still open and doing the same six months later. Mr Nagpal is happy to keep on taking the rent on this business to which he should not have let in the first place.”

The Guardian Series contacted Mr Nagpal for comment.

His personal assistant told the Guardian: “It is the tenant’s responsibility, we just own the building. I am working with Tower Hamlets Council. I am up there every other day and I am monitoring it and I have got people I know that have gone in there and had massages. I cannot comment on it and I won’t comment on it.”
