HALF a year’s practice paid off for a group of young recorder players this week.

Budding musicians from seven primary schools performed to nearly 100 people at Redbridge Music Service’s annual concert at St Mary’s Church in South Woodford on Monday (May 22).

The Year 5 and 6 pupils from Churchfields, Our Lady of Lourdes, Oakdale, Redbridge, Fairlop, Mossford Green and Glade primary schools had been working on their pieces since October last year.

With songs from Russia to Japan and classic to contemporary, the youngsters wowed the audience, before a special performance by their teachers.

RMS teacher Maggie Gobel said she was delighted with the show her pupils put on and thanked Revd Canon Ian Tarrant for welcoming them all.

She said: “They were fantastic, particularly our two soloists Mrita and Sarayu, who really showed just how beautiful the recorder can sound.”
