A TEENAGE singer has made it through to the semi finals of Britain’s Got Talent after impressing the judges.

Harry Gardner, 17, will perform in front of millions of viewers at a live semi final tonight (Tuesday, May 30) after making judges cry with a tribute song to his nan who lived in Green Walk, Ongar.

Maureen McGuinness, Harry’s nan, was diagnosed with Alzheimers in 2013. She died a week before his performance aired and was laid to rest in Ongar last week.

Harry’s mother, Gail, said: “Harry wrote the song ‘Not Alone’ when his nan began to no longer recognise him. He picked out all his wonderful memories of her to help him write the song.

“Putting his feelings into a song helped him cope with the situation as it was a difficult issue for us all to talk about.”

Harry, who lives in Writtle, wrote the song last year and decided to raise awareness of Alzheimers disease.

He has raised £15,000 for the Alzheimers UK so far, and has set himself a target of £25,000.

Gail added: “The response to the song has been outstanding and he could not believe the amount of people affected by the disease, so he decided to take it to Britain’s Got Talent to try and share his song with the nation.”

Britain’s Got Talent will be on ITV tonight at 7:30pm.
