A DRUG dealer who threw 20 wraps of cocaine out of his car window trying to evade police has been jailed.

Essex Police drug squad officers first became suspicious of Hummad Arif’s car when they spotted it in Honeypot Lane, Basildon, in the early hours of October 21 last year.

But when they approached it to do a stop check at around 3.45am, Arif, of Falmouth Gardens, Clayhall, quickly hurled the drugs package out of the window.

The 32-year-old was searched and arrested on suspicion of possession of a Class A drug with intent to supply.

He also had £100 cash, two mobile phones, and a small amount of cannabis in his pocket too.

He admitted the cocaine and cannabis charges at Basildon Crown Court last week (Tuesday, June 6) and was handed two years and nine months behind bars.

His 38-year-old car passenger was arrested at the same time as him, but later released without charge.

Sgt Ben Woollard of Essex Police’s south operation raptor team said: “If you are drug dealing in Essex we know where you operate, how you operate, who you associate with, and it is only a matter of time before we bring you into custody and put you before the courts.

“Arif is just another in a long line of drug dealers that we have put behind bars and he now has the next couple of years to contemplate his actions.”
