A new community space in Walthamstow has been shortlisted for two prestigious architecture awards.

Central Parade, in Hoe Street, has been nominated in the "Meanwhile" and "Mayor’s Prize" categories at the New London Architecture (NLA) awards.

The Meanwhile category celebrates projects that “embrace the city as a work in progress” while "supporting long-term ambitions".

The Mayor’s Prize showcases schemes that best reflect the Mayor of London's "ambition for good growth".

The public will be able to vote for their favourite projects on the NLA website until June 26.

The Central Parade scheme is housed in a block originally dating from the 1960s, which was most recently used to provide council customer services.

Opened in July last year, the project was realised funding was awarded by the Greater London Authority (GLA).

It is expected to become home to an "indoor mall" of 50 independent creative businesses, with a range of different spaces available to rent, including retail units, studio areas and desk spaces.

Cllr Simon Miller, Waltham Forest council cabinet member for economic growth, said: "Central Parade had become dilapidated and run down.

"With support from the GLA’s High Street Fund, working in partnership with Meanwhile Space CIC, the building is now a bespoke space for artists, musicians and creatives to practise and perfect their crafts.

"I am really pleased that the development has been shortlisted in the Mayor’s Prize category in the New London Architecture awards.

"I encourage Waltham Forest residents to visit the NLA website and vote for Central Parade so that the hard work of the project team, the architects, and our local creatives is recognised."
