A WOMAN is fundraising for a family she has never met after hearing about their seven-year-old’s battle with a rare brain tumour.

Despite only living a few miles away in Hainault, Pamela Chow has never actually met Woodford Green schoolgirl Kaleigh Lau.

But when the 38-year-old found out she was fighting an incurable condition called Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma (DIPG), and her family had given up everything to try to save her life with pioneering treatment in Mexico, she wanted to do something to help.

Ms Chow, of Trehearn Road, first heard about Kaleigh’s illness through a former colleague whose son is Kaleigh’s dad Scott’s godson.

She said: “Ever since I found out about it I’ve been following their updates on Facebook, and last year it seemed like hope was running out.

“I don’t have kids myself but I can’t imagine what it must be like for her parents watching their little girl go through that.

“It’s such a horrible thought, so as I couldn’t donate thousands of pounds to help them myself, I decided to organise something to raise money for her treatment."

With the help of clothes company Travelling Trends, Ms Chow is putting on a fashion show at Woodford Baptist Church in South Woodford next month (July 11) to help the Laus pay for Kaleigh’s lifeline trip.

With flights, accommodation, and 10 to 15 rounds of treatment at £21,000 each, the Laus bid to save Kaleigh’s life in Mexico is going to cost around £300,000.

All ticket sales will go towards her treatment fund, as well as 10 per cent commission if 100 people turn out for the show.

After a “proper runway experience” guests will get the chance to buy the clothes showcased by the models.

Ms Chow added: “It’s going to be a fun night out with your girlfriends, while raising money for an incredible cause.”

Scott Lau said: “We are truly grateful to friends, family and strangers – who have become our friends, for gathering around us in our time of need to show love, kindness, and generosity.

“We just couldn’t have got to where we are on our own, a million thank yous.”

Tickets are £10 or £15 for VIP entry and doors open at 7pm. For more information email pochums@gmail.com or call 07909968988.
