A WOMAN inspired by the Women’s March has set up a community group to celebrate diversity and “fight hated with love”.

Danielle Parker, 35, founded Women of Walthamstow Uniting after attending the march in London in January.

Ms Parker of Walthamstow said she saw a real appetite for a group that gives women a platform to showcase their talents and achievements.

“It was a very spontaneous reaction from me, off the back of the Women’s March that I attended when Trump was inaugurated,” she said.

“I just came back feeling completely inspired by the sense of solidarity at the march and the fact we were all there for the same thing and I wanted to do something.

“After posting messages on social media I received so many responses and I knew it was worth pursuing. Before I knew it the group had 200 women.

“Behind this idea I hoped for three things - to fight hatred with love, to make women the cheerleaders of other women and to celebrate our differences alongside what unites us.”

The group’s first festival will take place next month and will feature live music, performances from dance groups, food stalls and speeches from women living in the borough.

Committee members, who are all volunteers, are looking for people to nominate those they look up to for the Woman of Walthamstow award.

After a public vote on social media the winner will be decided by a panel of judges at the festival.

Ms Parker said: “It’s about celebrating women so you can nominate a woman who is inspiring and an advocate for other women in her community.”

To nominate someone for the award email wowuniting@gmail.com or tweet @wowuniting.

New members are welcome to join the group.

The WoW U Summer Festival will take place in Walthamstow Town Square at 12 noon on Sunday, July 9.
