A MAN has been found guilty of causing death by dangerous driving after a 17-year-old boy was killed in a crash.

Gary Brown, 22, of Lewisham was convicted at the Old Bailey after Nassem Galleze died in the “tragic” incident in September 2015.

It comes after three men were jailed in April for offences in connection with the death of Nassem, of Lewisham.

Remi Moore, 24, of Lea Bridge Road, Leyton, and his brother Shiloh Moore, 23, were both jailed for three years and four months for violent disorder.

A 22-year-old man from Lewisham was jailed for two years and eight months for possessing a machete.

The court heard on the afternoon of September 26 2015 at around 3pm, Brown was driving in Frensbury Road, Brockley, with Nassem and another friend as passengers.

After they were attacked by a rival gang armed with weapons, Brown drove away only to turn the car around and return. The prosecution said this was a deliberate effort to goad the gang.

After being attacked a second time and once again turning around, Brown drove at high speed towards the group and a lump of concrete was thrown at the windscreen.

Brown lost control and hit a lamppost, spinning the car round. The group continued to attack the car before fleeing the scene.

Nassem was found badly injured and slumped unconscious on the back seat. He died in hospital shortly before 5.30pm that afternoon.

A post-mortem examination found his cause of death to be multiple injuries, consistent with being in a road traffic collision.

Brown was arrested at the scene for driving without a licence or insurance, to which he pleaded guilty.

Detective Chief Inspector Noel McHugh said: "Brown could have driven away that day and not become involved in the dispute. But he made a deliberate decision to turn his car round several times and goad the youths in the street.

"He was seen speeding towards the opposing group, accelerating aggressively enough to make the car's wheels spin, and driving on the wrong side of the road, narrowly missing colliding with two buses at one point.

"His reckless actions had tragic consequences with the death of Nassem who was just 17.”

The investigation continues and police have not identified the person who threw the block of concrete.

Brown will be sentenced on a date to be set.
