Jeremy Corbyn told voters to “prepare for a Labour government” as he got back on the campaign trail in Chingford.

The Labour leader held a rally at Chingford Green this afternoon (Thursday, July 6), as he toured marginal seats across the country in anticipation of another snap General Election.

Mr Corbyn said he was ready for a new election “whenever” and told his supporters to expect his party to win when the next vote does take place.

Labour has set its sights on the Chingford and Woodford Green constituency, where former Conservative leader Iain Duncan Smith now holds a razor-thin majority.

Speaking to the crowds who turned out, Mr Corbyn said: “I do not know any more than anyone else in this park when that election will come.

“I do know this- we will be ready for it whenever it comes, we are ready for it now, we are ready for it tomorrow.

“We will keep up all the pressure we can so that we can get that election and take our message out to all of the people of this country of the opportunities that are there for all of us.

“I am proud of what we have achieved thus far, I am disappointed we didn’t quite get across the line.

“But here, today, in Chingford, the campaign begins to get more support for Labour, the campaign begins to win this constituency.”

Chingford has never elected a Labour MP and was represented by former Tory minister, Norman Tebbit, for more than 30 years before Mr Duncan Smith took his place in 1992.

However, IDS has seen his majority cut from almost 15,000 to just 2,400 in the time since, barely holding off the challenge of Labour’s Bilal Mahmood at last month’s General Election.

Mr Corbyn told voters he would visit every marginal seat across the country over the coming weeks in preparation for a fresh election.

The Labour leader added: “We are starting the campaign straight away, I will be visiting every single one of the 73 marginals that we hope to gain at the General Election.

“We are making sure we get to every single one of those marginals.”
