A TEAM of knitters have just finished making their 250th blanket after six years of weekly needle sessions.

Fifteen residents from Milne Court in Churchfields, South Woodford, have been getting together every Sunday to make blankets to keep people in need warm since 2011.

Last week the “Knitty Noras” were given a special congratulations by Age UK for completing their milestone throw.

Milne Court is run by charity Jewish Blind and Disabled who help people of all ages with disabilities live independently.

Resident Helen Silton is 100-years-old and has been the member of the group since it started.

She said: “This is definitely a highlight of the week for all of us.

“It’s good for the limbs and the mind, and a nice social activity where we all get together to knit, chat and enjoy some tea and cake provided by the volunteers.

“We’ve had wonderful letters from Age UK letting us know how the blankets are put to good use and it really feels important that we are doing something to help those in need.”
