The road is still closed eastbound and emergency services are still on scene.

An air ambulance landed to treat a 47-year-old man involved, but he was eventually taken to hospital by car.

A London Ambulance Service (LAS) spokesman said: "We were called at 12:42 today (July 17) to reports of a road traffic collision on the North Circular near Charlie Brown’s roundabout in South Woodford.

"We sent an ambulance, an advanced paramedic, a paramedic in a fast car, our Hazardous Area Response Team (HART) and an incident response officer to the scene. We also dispatched London’s Air Ambulance.

"The first paramedic arrived at the scene in less than six minutes.

"We treated a patient at the scene and took him as a priority to a major trauma centre."

Detectives from the Met's roads and transport policing command are investigating the incident but have yet to make any arrests.

Officers say the vehicles braked to avoid a stationary car in the fifth lane of the road.

This vehicle left the scene prior to the arrival of emergency services.

Police want like to speak with anyone who has information regarding this car.
