YOUNGSTERS celebrating the start of the summer holidays marked the end of the school year by giving their shoes to a children in need.

As the bell rang at Our Lady of Lourdes RC Primary School in Wanstead today (July 18) pupils left their shoes behind to be donated to charity.

Many walked home barefoot, returning for their last day on Wednesday in a pair of their choice.

Charity Sal’s Shoes will send their second-hand kicks to a child in need in Africa.

Teacher Jenny Daniell said: “As our school year comes to a close and our uniform is put away for the summer, we’ve encouraged our children to think about others.

“We have helped change another child’s life by donating our school shoes, which will be too small in September to a child who really needs them.”
