Travellers have set up shop in a sports field one week after a large convoy made a “violent” break-in less than three miles away.
About 20 caravans and motorhomes are camping around the perimeter of a field in Highams Park, next to the council’s Peter May Sports Centre.
Onlookers raised the alarm this week after the recent events in Sewardstone Road, in Chingford, when a convoy of 30 motorhomes stormed a sports field.
Waltham Forest Council confirmed the land the travellers are currently occupying is owned by the London Playing Fields Association.
Bailiffs are expected to begin evicting the travellers from the field, which backs onto the Rushcroft Foundation School, this afternoon.
