Two thugs caught on camera shooting a man before robbing his wife have been jailed for a total of more than 43 years.

Nyrome Hinds, 31, of Forest Road, Walthamstow, and David Sterling, 33, of Cologne Road, Clapham Junction, carried out their violent plot in Leyton on November 23 last year.

At around 9pm, wearing hi-visibility jackets, Hinds and Sterling approached their victims, a 36-year-old man and his wife, on the steps to the couple’s front door.

Hinds shot his victim in the leg and stomach, before shooting the man a third time as he lay injured on the floor.

His wife, who had her watch stolen but was unharmed during the robbery, fought off the thugs, pushing them back down the stairs.

Her husband suffered a leg fracture and multiple bowel injuries, but has since been discharged from hospital.

Sterling was arrested the day after the shooting. Hinds was arrested at his home on December 5.

Upon arrest he was found to be suffering from a gunshot wound to his elbow, believed to have been sustained during the attack, that he had not sought hospital treatment for.

Hinds and Sterling were put together before, during and after the attack, which also was caught on CCTV, by witness statements and phone evidence.

Detectives retraced Sterling's movements to recover blood-stained clothing linked to him that had been thrown in a skip.

A phone recovered from the scene carried DNA which was also later matched to Sterling. The firearm used in the attack was not recovered.

Detective Sergeant Nick Hamer, from of the Met’s Trident command, said: “This shooting had a clear element of planning, and the primary motive was to rob the victims of their watches.

"The victim was very lucky to survive with the injuries he received.

“I would like to give special acknowledgement to the victim's wife who courageously fought off the attackers and attempted to get between them and her husband.

"If it had not been for her actions, it is highly likely that more shots would have been fired at her husband, and the outcome could have been worse."

Hinds was found guilty of attempted murder, possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life, robbery and possession of a firearm at the Old Bailey on June 7.

Sterling admitted robbery and possession of a firearm. He was found not guilty of attempted murder and possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life.

Hinds was sentenced to 32 years' imprisonment, while Sterling was handed an 11-and-a-half year jail term.
