A police officer was injured after a group of youths threw missiles during a street gathering.

The youths had been turned away from a nearby school disco and descended on the Church Road, Leyton.

The incident happened at around 9pm on Wednesday (July 26).

Reports on social media suggest neighbours were disturbed by “shouting, screaming, dog barking and police sirens”.

A spokesman for the Met said: “Officers sought to disperse the crowd, the majority of whom complied with police.

“However, at around 11pm a group became hostile, and missiles were thrown at police officers.

“Most of those present had dispersed by midnight.

“There have been no arrests. CCTV footage will be viewed to identify anyone who committed criminal acts.”

The officer sustained a minor injury.
