Live concerts look set to return to a historic Walthamstow music venue as part of a redevelopment of the site.
Waltham Forest Council has granted provisional planning permission for a basement music venue at The Standard, in Blackhorse Lane, as part of a wider regeneration project in the area.
Plans for the site will also include a bar, a supermarket and 50 new flats.
The Standard was a hotel and then a pub for most of its history, before it became a dedicated entertainment venue in 1986.
It went on to host artists including Suzi Quatro and Kula Shaker, as well as alternative comedy stars Alan Davies, Harry Enfield and Jack Dee until its closure
The site was then bought by Turkish Food Centre (TFC) in 2011 and was expected to become a supermarket.

However, the council says it has been able to agree a deal with the chain to “safeguard” the venue’s future.
The authority’s cabinet member for economic growth, Cllr Simon Miller, said: “The historic Standard pub is a key gateway to the Blackhorse Lane area where we are delivering substantial regeneration projects that will result in a new cultural hub in Waltham Forest.
“Live music venues are critical to the development of artists and we are determined to support local creatives.
“The council’s regeneration team has been working closely with TFC to safeguard the Standard as a live music venue
“This proposed mixed-use development aligns with our aims and we will continue to work with closely with the owners to help ensure that this scheme becomes reality.”
