A POLICE officer has been sacked after lying to protect his uninsured brother when he crashed his car.

PC Miladur Khan, of the Met’s east area command covering Redbridge, Havering, and Barking and Dagenham, was dismissed from the force last month (July 27).

The 30-year-old was let go after falsely claiming he was behind the wheel when his and his brother Mured’s car crashed in Tower Hamlets on June 29 last year.

He told police numerous times he was the one driving, when CCTV footage proved it was his brother, who did not have insurance at the time.

He admitted perverting the course of justice at Southwark Crown Court on May 2.

Later that month he was sentenced to six months in prison, allowing the police to start their own misconduct investigation.

The panel decided Khan should be fired without notice.

Chairman, assistant commissioner Mark Rowley said: “This officer has let himself, his family and his colleagues down.

“Our communities expect the highest standards of integrity from our officers and in this case the officer failed to meet these standards.”
