MEMBERS of the Women’s Institute have been busy knitting “twiddlemuffs” to help comfort dementia patients when they go into hospital.
After Dementia Awareness Week earlier this year, the Wanstead WI decided to do their bit by making the sensory blankets to help make patients at Goodmayes Hospital in Barley Lane feel more at home.
A spokesman for the hospital managers NELFT said: “Thank you to the Wanstead WI for making and donating their “twiddlemuffs”.
“They can be source of comfort and activity for individuals with dementia who might otherwise feel agitated during a hospital stay.”
The Wanstead WI meets on every third Thursday of the month at Christ Church Hall in Wanstead Place. Annual membership is £39. For more information, see the website.
