Legendary photographer and local hero David Bailey is judging a competition showing the community’s love for Whipps Cross Hospital.

The prize up for grabs for the winner is two return flights to Madeira, in sunny Portugal, while the runner up gets four free tickets to see Leyton Orient.

The photography competition is the latest from Waltham Forest Council’s campaign to get people showing their love for the Leytonstone hospital.

David Bailey, who was born in Whipps Cross, will be joined by local photographer Jimmy Lee on the judging panel.

They are asking photographers to send in their best snaps of their favourite areas in the borough, so don't limit yourself to just the hospital.

Bailey has snapped the likes of Princess Diana, Kate Moss and the Queen, but he will be turning his eye on your best work to find that special shot.

From the autumn a selection of the best images will be used to brighten the walls of Whipps Cross.

Leader of Waltham Forest Council, Cllr Clare Coghill, said the ‘Love Whipps Cross’ campaign is a once in the lifetime opportunity to rethink the way healthcare is provided in the borough.

She added: “This photography competition is part of our campaign to get the Waltham Forest community to show their support for keeping and improving this key piece of infrastructure for the borough.

"We know that there many talented photographers in the borough, so who better to ask to send us brilliant snaps of their favourite Waltham Forest places, spaces and views?”

You have until 12pm on Wednesday, September 13, to enter.

Send digital images to media@walthamforest.gov.uk and remember to include full name, address, and the location picture was taken.

Use the subject line ‘The Whipps Cross Photography Competition’ when submitting entries.
