This abandoned mattress cost its owner £400
A FLY-TIPPER caught dumping a mattress in an alleyway on camera was fined £400.
The brazen litterer abandoned the mattress in the alley off Haslemere Road, Seven Kings, but was caught out by CCTV operators who immediately told Redbridge Council.
The council has powers to hand out immediate fixed penalty notices to anyone fly-tipping or engaging in other types of anti-social behaviour in the borough.
The worst offenders are forced to defend themselves in court, which can lead to even heftier fines.
