A NEW development being built on former NHS sites is promising to be 100 per cent affordable.

A total of 79 homes are being developed by the Peabody Group at the Stonelea and Thornebury centres, two former NHS buildings off Union Close, in Leytonstone.

Despite getting planning permission to build only 30 per cent affordable homes in 2016, the developers now say it will all be “affordable”.

After negotiations with Waltham Forest council’s development and investment team, it was agreed that 36 homes will be let at social rent levels, and the remaining 43 marketed as shared ownership properties.

Executive Director of Development for Peabody Group, Dick Mortimer said: “It is our pleasure to be working with the council to provide high quality, genuinely affordable homes for Waltham Forest.

“We recognise that there is a significant demand for high quality, family sized homes in the borough and more than one third of this development will be family units with three or more bedrooms.”

Council leader Cllr Coghill said she was really pleased to see “wonderful new homes” being built for families.

She added: “One of my priorities as the leader of the council is to make sure that everyone has a roof over their heads and providing affordable, high-quality housing is vital to achieving this.

The development will be designed by Alan Camp Architects and constructed by Keepmoat Regeneration, part of the ENGIE group.
