One of the UK’s most celebrated jazz singers will hold a concert to raise cash for a music charity.

Clare Teal, who was voted British Jazz Singer of the Year three times, will play with her trio at the National Jazz Archive’s concert in September.

The Loughton-based charity was founded in 1919 by Digby Fairweather and holds the one of the country’s finest collection of written, printed and visual material on jazz and blues.

Ms Teal, who works as a BBC Radio 2 broadcaster, has released 14 albums to date and has performed with the likes of Sir Van Morrison.

The Yorkshire-born singer said: “It’s a pleasure to bring my quartet to play at Loughton to help raise funds for the National Jazz Archive.

“It’s a wonderful resource for everyone interested in the history and development of jazz in this country.”

Ms Teal will be supported by Jason Rebello on the piano, Simon Little on bass and Ben Reynolds on the drums at the concert on Thursday, September 14.

The event will take place at Loughton Methodist Church in the high street. Doors open at 7.45pm and tickets cost £20 each.
