Sub Officer Macwilliam of Waltham Abbey Fire Station said: "When we arrived, the baby had been rescued by the mother but it was clear she was suffering with shock and the baby was wet through and getting colder.

“We got the baby out of its wet clothes and wrapped it in a warm blanket.

"Two members of the public were comforting the mother and did an excellent job at keeping her calm.

“We made sure everyone was ok and then handed them over into the care of the paramedics.”
