AN ESTATE is in “shock” after a teenager became the latest victim of a “serious” acid attack in east London.

People living in the Avenue Road Estate in Leytonstone were first alerted by the sound of loud screaming late on Sunday.

Safraz Adam, 32, was having dinner when he heard a “roar” outside and a young man calling for help.

As made his way outside to see what was going on, he said the boy wandered from inside the estate towards Langthorne Road.

When Safraz came upon the boy, he said “it was like a scene in a horror movie”.

The accounts administrator added: “The fire brigade turned up and started dousing him with water, literally spraying cold water all over him.

“He was screaming with his mouth wide open with saliva dripping from his mouth.

“After dousing him they put him in an orange suit and began to spray solution into his eyes from what look liked hospital bed drip bags.

“I couldn’t take seeing anymore and headed back home, many people were around.”

The emergency services arrived shortly after 10pm and found an 18-year-old suffering from “serious facial injuries”.

After giving him roadside treatment he was taken to hospital with possible life-changing injuries.

Scotland Yard today confirmed they are looking for a lone attacker, who was caught on CCTV.

Officers are using these images to identify the attacker, but they will not share them this early in the investigation.

Police also said the victim was walking with a bicycle at the time, but it was not stolen.

The incident has rocked the community living in the estate, which backs onto Downsell Primary School.

Safraz said: “Both parks are empty and no children to be seen.

“Everyone here is traumatised by what happened. It’s not safe here anymore with moped gangs and general gangs loitering around.

“The whole estate is in shock.”

A crime scene was put in place immediately after the attack and a dog unit attended.

No arrests have been made, enquiries continue.

A surge in acid attacks has left victims all over east London and Essex, with incidents in Chingford, Loughton, Leyton, Buckhurst Hill, Walthamstow, Wanstead and Leytonstone in the last year alone.

Against this horrifying backdrop, the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) has updated its guidance for prosecutors to include acid and corrosive substances.

Anyone who carries acid could face up to four years in prison or risk a life sentence if they use it to attack someone.

Anyone with information about the attack in Leyton is asked to call Waltham Forest CID on 101 or Tweet @MetCC.

Information can also be reported anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 or online at crimestoppers-uk.org.
