Beer enthusiasts will have the opportunity to own a share of their local brewery and have a real stake in its future by contributing to a crowdfunding campaign to support its expansion.

The directors of Wild Card Brewery are hoping to raise £250,000 to fund refurbishments and buy more brewing equipment for its two sites which will mean more beer for keen drinkers.

The brewery in Shernhall Street, Walthamstow has gone from “strength to strength” since it first opened in 2012 and the company recently took over a second site in Blackhorse Lane.

William Harris, one of its directors, said by chipping in as little as £10 investors can help the independently-owned business meet the demands of the community.

East London and West Essex Guardian Series:

Mr Harris said: “We have not been able to make enough beer to meet our demands for a while now.

“It’s make or break time. Now is the time to grow the company.

“We started on a credit card and it’s been quite a shoestring operation so far.

“Ever since we started we have had great support from the people of Walthamstow and Waltham Forest in general coming in and buying the beer and recommending us.

“This is a great opportunity for people to own a stake in their local brewery.”

The crowdfunding page will go live on Friday August 25 and there is no upper limit to the amount investors can contribute to the campaign.

Perks for shareholders include invites to exclusive events and beer merchandise.

The investment is expected to create additional job opportunities for brewers at the firm.

Last year the brewery launched Walthamstow’s first locally-made lager as well as scooping the award for London’s top brew at the Urban Food Awards.
