Two comedians have picked up a prestigious award for their TV show pilot set in Highams Park.

Katy Poulter, from Highams Park and Francesca Marie Claire, from Newham, won Best Scripted Pilot at last week’s The Edinburgh International TV Festival for their show, Laur and Disorder.

Set in Waltham Forest, the show follows detective Laura, played by Katy, who goes undercover at a Highams Park playgroup with sister Dee, played by Francesca, to solve a gold bullion robbery.

Local mums and babies were cast in the playgroup scenes and the pilot featured All Saints Church in Highams Park as well as the offices of a furniture shop in the area.

Katy said: “It feels incredible for a group of top industry professionals to recognise us as emerging TV talent.

“There’s been lots of industry interest in the pilot so, hopefully, we will get the opportunity to turn it into a new TV show.”

The Edinburgh International Television Festival has celebrated creators of before television and digital media programming since 1976.

The event attracts a star-studded line-up each year, with the likes of Kevin Spacey, Ricky Gervais, Jamie Oliver and Simon Cowell all having taken part in the festival.

Katy and Francesca also publish comedy does on their YouTube “We Don’t Hate Men”. For more information, visit: youtube.com/wedonthatemen.
