Some 2,000 young people are expected to benefit from new community activities after a youth group secured a £600,000 grant.

Essex Boys and Girls Club (EBGC) successfully bid for a slice of the Youth Investment Fund (YIF) and will spread the grant over Redbridge, Havering and Barking and Dagenham over three years.

The organisation, which works with voluntary youth groups, plans to establish new and inclusive youth activities in each borough.

Jay Solder, project leader for EBGC, said: “Staff are already in place and will work with existing clubs in the area, including Ab Phab and Frenford, and will be actively looking for other partner organisations to work with.

“We are at the start of what promises to be an exciting journey which will benefit the lives of thousands of young people over the coming years.”
