A series of free exercise sessions will be on offer next week to encourage people to get on board for National Fitness Day.
Lee Valley activity centres in Waltham Forest, Stratford and Edmonton will mark the UK’s biggest celebration of exercise on Wednesday September 27.
People of all fitness levels are being encouraged to sign up for a class in tennis, boot camp or ‘Ride in Movie’ which allows cyclists to watch a film as they pedal.
Physical inactivity is one of nation’s biggest health issues and costs the government around £20bn per year.
Kulvinder Sihota, managing director at Vibrant Partnerships said: “We’re delighted to support National Fitness Day next week and be part of a great, country wide initiative to get people moving.
“In addition to providing an opportunity for visitors and communities living close to our venues to try out our world class facilities, we hope our sessions will also inspire participants to make a positive change and become more active, improving their health and wellbeing in the long run.”
Research in 2012 by Public Health England revealed that physical inactivity is the fourth greatest cause of disease and disability in the UK, responsible for one in six deaths.
