A young mum diagnosed with a rare form of Alzheimer’s is calling east Londoners to get their walking boots on to raise money to fight against the disease.

Jayde Greene, originally from Leytonstone, will take part in the Alzheimer’s Society’s Memory Walk at the Olympic Park in Stratford on Saturday, October 14.

The mother-of-one, who now lives in Clarence Road, near Wanstead Flats, is also urging others to sign up for the walk to help fund new research into dementia.

Doctors have told the 27-year-old she has a rare gene mutation, which means she can expect to begin developing symptoms of Alzheimer’s by her early forties.

Jayde said: “I was devastated when I received the news because it is a rare condition that affects my whole family, not just me.

“Members of my family are already living with dementia and others are waiting for test results to come through.

“Rather than just sit here and do nothing, I have decided to take part in Alzheimer’s Society’s Memory Walk to raise awareness of the condition and fund research.

“I will be taking part in the London night walk in October with my friends and family who have been so supportive. I urge anyone else who can to join me and walk for a world without dementia.”

More than 2,000 people have already signed up to raise money for research into dementia by taking part in the Stratford Memory Walk next month.
