One man’s junk is another man’s treasure and it seems there was plenty to go around at this year’s Waltham Forest Samaritans’ Grand Jumble Sale.

From vintage clothing to furniture and bric-a-brac, no one left empty-handed and a record amount of cash was raised for the charity run by 80 volunteers in Lea Bridge Road, Leyton.

Last year the charity supported more than 13,000 people suffering from feelings of distress and despair as well as those at risk of suicide.

Branch Director Sarah Dennis praised all those who offered up their time to make the event at Orford House Social Club in Walthamstow Village on Sunday September 17 a success.

East London and West Essex Guardian Series:

“As a result of the generous donations, our amazing volunteers, Stow Brothers Estate Agents and the warm-hearted Walthamstow residents who turned out in their hundreds, we raised more than £765, which is our best ever result.

“Our branch costs around £23,000 to run, so we are incredibly grateful to the local community for supporting us, our volunteers for their time, and to the London Borough of Waltham Forest for its support.”
