A man in his late 20s suffered minor injuries after an unknown substance was thrown at him.
Emergency services rushed to Walthamstow High Street at 5pm on Tuesday September 26 after receiving reports of a “noxious substance sprayed” at a man.
Police, who washed the injured man as they awaited fire crews, say they do not believe acid was used in the incident.
A spokesman for the Met said: “We were called to reports of a disturbance at 1700hrs in a shop in Palace Parade, Walthamstow High Street.
“An unknown substance had been thrown.
“A man in his late 20s was treated for minor injuries at the scene and was not taken to hospital.
“While it is not known what the substance is, it is not believed to be corrosive.
“No arrests. Enquiries continue.”
A spokesman for London Fire Brigade said: “We were called at 5.02pm to reports of a noxious substance sprayed.
“One man was treated at the scene by London Ambulance Service.
“He was flushed with water by the Met before we arrived and the duty of care was left with London Ambulance Service.
“It was all over by 5.46pm.”
