An ethical food company has created a pizza with eight different toppings to celebrate the diversity of the community it serves.
The Walthamstow Pizza features toppings representing the largest nationalities living in the area, based on the last census.
Sodo Pizza Café in Hatherley Mews, Walthamstow partnered with migrant charity MyLondon to source chefs from different backgrounds to help create the pizza.
The pizza will be topped with traditional foods from Jamaica, Lithuania, Romania, India, Poland, Turkey, Pakistan and Britain.
A street party with a live band and guest speakers will be held next month to launch pizza.
Groups of eight people, all of different nationalities, will be treated to a free pizza at the party in Hatherley Mews from 2pm to 10pm on Sunday, October 8.
Dan Birch, founder of Sodo said: “The old English for Walthamstow is ‘Welcome Place’ and a love of food is something we all share. Who doesn’t like a good pizza?
“With this special pizza, I really wanted to bring people together.
“I mean after all, aren’t we all just pizzas with different toppings?”
The company hope by featuring the pizza on its venue, it will “spread harmony in communities, showing that food can bring people together and be used as a symbolism of togetherness”.
