A hospice is offering those who have missed out on a place in next year’s London Marathon a second chance to get on the starting line.

St Clare Hospice in Hastingwood is offering six people the opportunity to take part in the marathon on April 22, 2018, through its “Gold Bond” application scheme.

Runners who failed to secure one of the 17,000 places open in the event’s annual ballot will be able to apply to run under the hospice’s banner, if they are able to raise a minimum of £2,000.

St Clare Challenges and Events Fundraiser, Emma Broadbent, said: “Congratulations to everyone who got in through the ballot for the London Marathon 2018.

“If you didn’t get a place, your luck’s not out yet because you can still apply for a Gold Bond place on Team St Clare.

“Joining Team St Clare ensures that local people’s fundraising efforts come to a local cause, offering vital care services within the local community.

“Team St Clare runners are treated to bespoke support throughout their training, including an invitation to our helpful marathon evenings.”

Runners who have already secured a marathon place can also sign up to support the hospice, with no minimum fundraising target.
