Waltham Forest Council plans to give away more than 25,000 flower bulbs to residents, local schools and community groups as part of a plan to brighten up the borough next spring.

A variety of bulbs will be available, including White Narcissus, Crocuses and Snowdrops amongst others, during the Big Bulb Weekend from October 27 to 29.

An additional 25,000 bulbs will be planted in Leyton Jubilee Park over the Big Bulb Giveaway weekend as part of a plan by the council to bring some extra colour to the borough.

Waltham Forest Council deputy leader, Cllr Clyde Loakes, said: “We’re keen to grow a sense of community in Waltham Forest and planting bulbs in our open shared spaces is a great way of doing this.

“It’s an activity that anyone can join in with so whether you’ve lived in Waltham Forest all your life or you’re just making roots in the area we’d love to have you join in.

“So let’s all get out there and plant bulbs at tree bases, verges, and parks. When spring comes we’ll be able to enjoy a kaleidoscope of colour as the bulbs bloom and brighten up our brilliant borough.”
