Pupils at Emmanuel Community School had a joint cause for celebration when their Diversity Week festivities coincided with Black History Month.
The school in The Drive, Walthamstow held poetry and poster competitions to encourage children to follow in the footsteps of those they found most inspiring.
Mohammed Ali, Martin Luther King Junior, Usain Bolt and Benjamin Zephaniah were some of the names the students came up with to feature on their posters.
Mayor of Waltham Forest Cllr Yemi Osho was on hand to award the winners with their prizes before parents and staff gathered for an international food fair in the assembly hall.
