A DRIVER was slapped with of pounds worth of fines for parking outside his own home- despite having a valid permit.
John Lochrie, of Priory Close, South Woodford, was confused when he received two tickets, each worth £110.
Mr Lochrie successfully overturned both tickets after arguing his resident’s permit allowed him to park on the yellow line.
Now Mr Lochrie, who has had a valid residents’ permit to park in the road since last November, expressed relief but feared it could happen again.
“I am relieved but half of me suspects they would try to give me a ticket if I parked there again. I haven’t parked in the same spot since the last ticket.
“At the moment I feel okay about it but I don’t know if they are going to do anything about the yellow line or keep allowing their traffic wardens to give tickets.”
Drivers who do not have a permit are not allowed to park there between 8.30am and 6.30pm Monday to Friday.
He believed he was punished for abiding by the rules.
The 24-year-old said: “It’s frustrating knowing I can park there and the wardens don’t know what the sign says. It feels like they’re trying to put a ticket on for the sake of it.”
He successfully appealed a ticket he received in June for parking in the same space.
The reason given for the parking ticket was changed from being parked in a restricted zone to being parked on a yellow line.
The sign stops drivers parking from that point onwards unless they are a resident.
“I feel like I’m being picked on because this isn’t happening to other cars. While I’m parked there it’s just my car that’s received a ticket. I haven’t seen others receive them.
“There’s not much justice in there. Every time they put a ticket they put it right on top of the residents’ permit I have on the front window.”
Redbridge Council introduced restrictions in Priory Close last November, informing residents that the double yellow line system would be replaced by a residents’ only system.
Mr Lochrie, who works as a team leader at TK Maxx, added: “The first time I received a ticket for parking in a restricted zone. The restricted area happens to be that same area I paid for residence parking
“I challenged it and they changed it to being ‘parked on a yellow line’. I again challenged, which I won, as the letter stated I had parked in a designated area for residents.
John also received two tickets in the last two weeks for parking in a restricted zone.
