Teachers are donning costumes in class in a bid to help engage students with new topics.

Staff at Debden Park High School have taken on new looks as part of its "Teacher in Role" scheme.

A number of teachers have taken part in the lessons, dressing up at characters including Plato and even Del Boy from Only Fools and Horses.

Members of staff also dressed up as characters from the musical Blood Brothers, with assistant headteacher Andy Hogan appearing as a police officer, English teacher Molly Smith as Mrs Lyons and assistant head Demetris Kalogirou as Mickey.

Assistant Headteacher Joe Simm said: "Teacher in Role is a great way to raise the level of engagement with a class.

"This year teachers asked students to prep their questions in advance which helped the teacher in role activity become a much more powerful teaching tool.

"Students enjoy testing the character and can also deepen their understanding by meeting the character live."
