POLICE have reportedly issued an eviction notice to travellers camped in a high street.
Travellers moved into Evergreen Field in High Street, Wanstead, on Friday night, setting up camp in the green space. Fly-tipped waste also appears to have dumped at the site.
Officers arrived at the scene on Saturday morning and are now in contact with the land owner to see what they would like to happen.
A spokeswoman for The Met said: “We are aware of the travellers occupying Evergreen Field. They are monitoring the situation and are liaising with the owner of the land regarding the travellers.
“However we must emphasise that as of yet there have been no anti-social behaviour issues caused by the traveller’s and their presence on the land.
“At this stage there have been no issues causing concerns, for them to be moved. It awaits contact with the owner, to confirm what will be done.”
The Guardian has also approached Redbridge Council for comment.
