DRIVERS need to ‘urgently rethink’ the way they travel to save the environment.
Redbridge Council is bidding for a TfL Liveable Neighbourhoods grant, which provides between £1 and £10 million, to encourage healthy travel and boost air quality in Church End, Woodford Green.
Road safety could be increased, traffic reduced and new green spaces formed if the bid is successful.
Councillor John Howard, cabinet member for environment and sustainability said: “There is an urgent need to get people thinking differently about how they get around, particularly on short journeys.
“We believe that if we win this bid it will lead to a great conversation with the local residents of Church End about how to implement ways of reducing congestion from traffic, create safer walking and cycling routes and around all of that, make their streets and public spaces more attractive to use.”
