A woman who refused to take a breath test has been named and shamed by police as part of a drink driving crackdown.

Kerry Smith, of Wood Green Road, Waltham Abbey, was stopped in the road she lives in by officers at around 9pm on June 17 this year.

She refused to provide a specimen for testing and was later hit with 10 penalty points on her licence, fined £150, ordered to pay £160 court costs and a further £30 victim surcharge.

The 52-year-old was convicted as part of an Essex Police campaign, which ran during June this year to clamp down on drink and drug driving in the country.

Officers are releasing details of anyone found guilty during the scheme in the hope it will act as a deterrent to others who are willing to get behind the wheel while under the influence.

Essex Police casualty reduction manager, Adam Pipe, said: “Driving while under the influence of drink and drugs ruins lives and devastates communities.

“I believe the people of Essex find this kind of behaviour completely unacceptable and I would urge anyone who knows of someone who drink or drug drives to contact us.

“No-one wants to experience how it feels to lose a loved one because of someone else’s thoughtlessness.”
