CREATIVES are running out of time to become part of Redbridge’s bid to become London’s borough of culture.

The Council could clinch £1 million pounds to stage a series of events putting the arts at the heart of the borough’s identity.

Culture vultures have been urged to submit what they love about the borough, what they like to do in Redbridge and campaign ideas to help the council’s bid.

Councillor Jas Athwal, leader of Redbridge Council says: “Our borough is a treasure trove of hidden stories and cultural gems and there’s already huge local support for the bid.

“I think people can see that this is an opportunity to do something special and create a legacy of culture at the heart of our borough’s future.”

Mayor Sadiq Khan says: “Culture is the DNA of our city. It has the power to transform communities and to bring people closer together.

“Now, more than ever, there is a pressing need to reach out to our neighbours and celebrate London’s unique and diverse culture.

“London Borough of Culture is a great way to do just that whilst showing the world that our cultural gems extend way beyond the centre of the capital to all corners of the city.”

Organisations like the Tate and Shakespeare’s Globe have pledged to partner on projects with the winning borough.

The London Borough of Culture bid is organised by Mr Khan and has been inspired by UK City and European Capital of Culture programmes.
